Functionality was added to link to markers from external pages (? marker=5). It would be nice to add specific markers in the XML file, currently it just increments. Having moved the example code out of our CMS, the grey box issue is resolved. This is not a solution however, as we still need the map inside our templates. CMS used is IBM WCM.
