That's rather the point. Give a link to an example which illustrates
the problem, that is: a map which used to work and now gives a key
error.

Why? If it's wrong that a key error still allowed the map, then
correcting that fault is now following the documentation. Previously
it was a bonus that an error still allowed a map.

A link would aid investigation.
