hi
I took this example from geocodezip.com (http://www.geocodezip.com/
v3_FusionTables_AfricaMap_kml_sidebar.html) where the data comes from
Fusion Table to generate a map and a sidebar to make my own map with
german data (zip-code areas from bavaria).

my map is here: http://www.ralf-wessels.de/test/apiv3/fusion/FT_sidebar.html

Everthing works great except the text objects (in sidebar and
infowindow) with german umlaute. With FF (4.01) and Chrome (11.0....)
the umlaute are displayed correct - with IE (Version 8) and Safari
(5.03) the umlaute are displayed as strange characters and you have to
change manualy the browser charset to "Western Europe" style to see
the umlaute correct.
If I change the meta information in the header to 'charset=iso-8859-1'
the behaviour of the browsers is exactly vice versa.

Is there a solution to get the umlaute correct in all common browsers?

best greetings from berlin
ralf
