I have finally revisited this problem (the page displays fine at work so it only bothers me on the weekends). I opened the theme creator form that I used to post the images and now it says the 'url has invalid characters'. The images were posted to picasa web through the theme creator form, and only the images that I am currently using give me the error. Although this does not explain why the image is properly displayed in some browsers on on some systems, it may be a start.
