I had a similar problem.  I tried submitting a theme and kept getting "file
not found" errors with all the images... even Google's very own gadget
icons!  I couldn't figure it out especially since my other themes worked
just fine with the same code, just different images.  Unfortunately I gave
up.  Doesn't seem to matter anyway since Google hasn't accepted any of my
other themes in preference to the online theme editor these days.  My theme
was a dynamic theme with about 7 different variations that rotated
throughout the day.  If anyone can figure it out, please let me know as
well.
