Thanks for your good question. "Lots" varies by language. We find that some languages give good translations with only 1 million words of parallel text, but others require 10M or more to give only results. Languages that have many different forms for words are more complicated.
We realize that 1M words is a large body of text, but our experience is that is a minimum.
