I think this may be the same problem that I ran into. When you use the QUERY function, it only looks at the first 100 rows returned to determine the type of the data. If your results column is empty in the first 100 rows, it decides that the column is text, and will consider all results in that column to be text, regardless of what they really are. What I finally ended up doing was putting a dummy row in at the top, with appropriate values to force the column type to what I needed.
