Things worked out after all. I'm replying here from my seconf machine
- thinkpad 600x with 391Mb of RAM. The wireless card worked right away
to my surprise. From other threads it seems to be a problem at times.
Only thing is the card doesn't light up like it did under XP, but it
works.

I'm upping the RAM to 512 on both machines.
