gOS 3.0 (final) should be upgradable again, that is as soon as an upgrade is available. At least Good OS has promised that from gOS 3.0 on the upgrader would work again, by using their own upgrade repositories. The fiasco with the up-grader came to be because older gOS versions totally relied on the Ubuntu upgrade repositories, which became unusable when it switched to 8.04 instead of 7.10 based stuff.
The problem with "unique gui" distributions, NOT largely based on a mainstream Linux distro, but built from scratch is that there won't be an existing user base to fall back to when you have questions or problems. With gOS at least you can be sure there are places to go to (or Ubuntu users) when you have a technical problem. If the window manager of gOS is too "bland" for your taste, you might like to know that I have heard that Good OS is also working on three other versions of gOS Gadgets, with three different Window managers, namely LXDE, XFCE, and Enlightenment (E17). With that much choice there should be one you like better.
