I'm glad to hear it will be upgradeable again.
I replaced Kanotix w gOS space on my laptop, and though I've had to
reinstall it a few times, have found it to be pretty good. It's
limited compared to what I'm used to, but everything but the webcam
worked w/o configuration. I otherwise use Sidux & generally prefer
pure Debian to *buntu & KDE to gnome. I expect to see some
interesting & original stuff from the gOS team, based on the talk
about the user experience i've heard from Mr Liu. I intend to follow
gOS & look forward to using it more. I just hope they don't wind up
releasing ubuntu w/ differnt existing DEs & nothing more.

SymphonyOS is the only Linux OS that I know of w/ a truly unique UI.
It is a wholly unique and revolutionary creation, not a set of tweaks
or rehash of what already exists. It does not utilize any existing DE.
It doesn't look like WIndows or Mac OS, or anything else. There are no
nested menus - everything appears on the desktop & there are no
desktop icons. As far as I know, it is fully supported by its
community & developers, and has a current release. It has Ubuntu as
its base & can run KDE, gnome apps, etc... It would've done very well
as a netbook OS if things had timed out right. Unfortunately, its
creator hit some hard times & his sites seem to be perpetually under
attack for some reason. Much of the innovative aspects, aside from
the UI, were abandoned, such as OneCLick package management. It's one
of those sad stories of what could've / should've been.
Though it has Ubuntu as its base, Mezzo can & has been run on many
other OSes. The creator of the Mezzo desktop, Orchestra & the
SymphonyOS, Ryan Quinn (sp?), has a very interesting white paper on UI
design, as well. It's well worth the google search & the read.
