Have you try to install msttcorefonts? If you have, do the fonts look
OK?

The difference between Windows and Linux is in the proprietary nature
of the software Windows uses, in the restrictions which come by you not
owning but only licencing the software under pretty draconian edicts,
and the lack of community development of the product. The difference
over who produces the operating system, is that Microsoft produce
Windows and IMHO Microsoft's business model is unethical and its
practices have been proven illegal; on the other hand, nobody "owns"
Linux in the same way and it is developed by a peer community, and even
the user can contribute.

The problem over fonts comes about by Microsoft buying up the user
rights and them licensing them principally for use with Windows. As
you are a Windows user you're licensed to use these fonts with Linux,
so try (in a terminal):

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
<password>

and see what happens. Come back here if you want more help.
