I had a similar issue with my satelite connection and found that i needed to
use "Orbit" a downloader program that
was able to resume if the transmision was interupted (check it out with
google) Since most users use md5sum checking
programs it is always a good thing to verify it before burning, but I have
to admit I have gotten lax with doing that too.
Another thing to consider is just purchase a dvd/cd from one of the places
that advertise on www.distrowatch.com that way you can get a couple of
different distros along with knowing the disc's are checked and should work,
they are really
pretty cheap.
The livecd will not affect your windows partition while being used, it is a
cool way to try before you settle on the distro.
