Hi, My Sylvania g netbook is currently dual booting gOS 3.0, the version downloaded from the Sylvania Computers website, and Vector Linux 6 rc1. I'm mostly running Vector because I don't see how to secure gOS. I grabbed all the upgrades from the Ubuntu Hardy repository with synaptic and while everything seemed to install OK the system did not survive a reboot. Broken doesn't begin to describe it.
gOS has no repositories of its own, right? OK, that means I have to use Ubuntu. What can I safely upgrade and what is likely to be problematic? Do I have to run a kernel with a known security vulnerability? I can't take gOS seriously (or use it online at all) if the answer to that last question is "yes". BTW, I did install the backport (kernel patch) to a stock 3.0 install to get CPU frequency scaling working and I did install the latest Via driver to get 3D graphics acceleration working with no problems. Security is the last hurdle for me. Thanks in advance for any input. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gOS Linux" group.
