gOS DOES have its own repositories, and the main page here, and the
beginners  FAQ clearly tell you so. The FAQ also warns explicitly
against trying to Upgrade with Ubuntu 8.10 elements, as it WILL break
your system!

If you just had added the gOS repository and would have let the
updates happen automatically nothing bad would have happened.
