Yes, I agree with everything you've said here. I think what you missed from my point was that I'm talking about planet's effectiveness for *non* Mozilla-related things. In the past, planet was the one-stop shop for all things Mozilla-related, AND it was a place to get to know fellow Mozillians on a more personal level. When we discuss the future of planet, old guard planet consumers who used planet for the latter purpose still want to use planet for that purpose. From the suggestions here, it sounds like we're still trying to accommodate that, but to to try and avoid the pitfalls we've fallen into now and then when people feel like something inappropriate was shared via planet. In short, the audience is too large for people to speak casually and off topic without being taken out of context. Also, planet was created *before* social media. I think now most of us get to know fellow Mozillians by following their social media profiles. I don't think we should try to preserve that purpose of planet, I think we should give in to planet's purpose as a participatory source of info on Mozilla-related topics. I'd be happy to expand on my thinking (on or off list) if people are interested and this doesn't feel off the mark. > So, yes, Planet might not be the best possible option, but it has a huge > existing audience, and if a better option eventually comes along I'm > confident the way most people are going to find out about it is via Planet. > > > - mhoye > > _______________________________________________ governance mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/governance
