And of course in MD3 you have the option of backing up the database separately or with the documents (or any other file you wish to include for that matter).

It's a hard message to get through. With a document manager storing attachments, scans etc in the filesystem, no one should have 4gb of data in the database. If you are a 10-15 machine practice moving from flat file to MSDE, you are going to be ahead (so long as there are no show stopping bugs in the client software and you're not using a pentium II as a server) I'm not sure about the file size warning with such a small amount of data. HCN told me recently that they had done successful conversions of 7GB MDW2 databases. Even the first 15 mins are valuable. Useful facts gleaned; SQL Express db size limit = 4gig, memory limit =1 gig. 5 connections does not mean 5 users, more likely 10-15 users would be happy with the speed. LISTEN to the webcast ! I posted it for a reason, there is to much ill-informed comment about MSDE and SQL Express. The limits of MSDE are not as bad as everyone thinks. I have by some mistake got an install of PS3 runnign on MSDE instead of the full copy of SQL. 15 users connected just fine. Bloody PS installer must have defaulted to MSDE... Now how to move it ?
