A follow up on this case: To complicate matters further: This GP succesfully restored his last backup of Saturday and everything is there & working. He again ran FRU but without ticking Include Documents. As expected the FRU was much quicker, but yet again a significant number of Documents / letters were altered - he was left with these letters being blank - and that was in MD2. Thus running FRU causes data to be removed in MD2. He has succesfully duplicated this. FRU didn't generate any warnings that data has been deleted.
He then again restored Saturdays backup. Migrated to BP without doing a FRU and everything is intact. All documents that FRU makes blank, was intact - in both MD2 & BP. Thus for him FRU is fatal. Now if he hadn't checked his post BP test migration as thoroughly as he did, he wouldn't have noticed these blank documents till much later. He would've gone ahead and do a live migration to BP and then after a few weeks discover the problem. The question of course arises: How many other users that have used FRU in the past in MD2 (without ticking Documents), haven't lost Data in the past, and still has these blank documents ? That also includes me' because ever since using MD2' at various stages I did FRU if certain problems were encoutered. HCN current recommendation is to do monthly FRU - and no mention not to tick Documents in their recommendation. In a nutshell: Even not ticking Documents, deletes data ! All the IT companies out there whoe are recommending Dr's change to MD3 should warn them about the possible Data loss when they do their pre-migration check. One can't migrate to MD3 without doing a FRU. (As mentioned other software is not dependendant on it). Now everyone who converts to MD3 also has to use this facility. If you all click on FRU icon, there are a few prompts about a backup, etc. Then appears a block with a tickbox option to Rebuild Document Databases . In red it advises you that it will significantly increase the time taken. In some users, ticking this box will delete the content of a significant number of letters / documents. A MD2 user I was helping, phoned me in a panic. By restoring his backup, these documents were returned. He has now done a FRU without ticking the box, and I'm awaiting his phonecall to see if that left the letters / documents intact. So anybody who uses FRU to convert to BP or MD3, do not tick this option - just run FRU without it.
