It was my experience so far that business and belief systems don't mix well.
Customers don't always share your very own view of the world, nor do they
always appreciate our own hard won insights. Since you might depend on your
business income, maybe something worthwhile pondering over? I haven't heard
of successful businessmen yet who thrived by ignoring a substantial number of
potential customers unless they were in the multi billion dollar ballpark and
had quasi monopolies. But just take a look at Telstra and even MS share
prices to see where this behaviour gets them.

While I praise the virtues of open standards and open source software, I have
been working in the past as Oracle and MS SQL DBA, sysadmin on Novell, SCO
Unix and NT systems etc. - even if I never would consider touching such
systems for my own use. Even worked for the pharmaceutical industry writing
software (Astra and Knoll) despite my ravings against pharmaceutical
marketing.

After considering all this I made the decision, retrained and went into
private medical practice so that I don't have this constant conflict of
interest and ethical dilemma any more. Took me almost decade to regain my
financial status, but it was worthwhile in terms of personal satisfaction and
happiness Maybe you would be happier if you make a decision too?
