Greg, I'm a great believer in radical solutions. Can you tell us more
about what the Illawarra, Hunter Urban and Central Coast Divisions have
achieved?

David,

Illawarra has had a network running that is a part of the local former Illawarra AHS network for some years, long before it got amalgamated with SESAHS to form SESIAHS. They have a number of clinical things running off it that their GPs use. Have a look at their website. They now want to extend this to the other areas of the new SESIAHS, comprising a fair bit of Southern Sydney, but unfortunately not ours.

Hunter Urban is setting up a VPN to connect to a number of their hospitals, most of their GPs, some specialists, and their division-run after hours clinics. They are also part of one of NSW Health's pilot, formerly part of HealthConnect, Health E-clinic, as I understand.

Central Coast is using a product called Division Report, developed by a company called CNS Health, to send electronic discharges from their hospital to GPs and some of their specialists.

Oh, and I nearly, forgot, Northern Rivers, closer to you, is running a VPN project to connect GPs to the local nursing homes. John Gable and David Cook are both involved.

I've got a Cardiab-Argus pilot sending us diabetes assessments, and there are a range of other things various Divisions are doing besides, like VOIP between offices in different towns.

So bottom-up is going reasonably well, comparatively. Most Divisions still lack their own IT support and this is a major inhibitor. Both Hunter and Urban run fee-for-service support to their members and others, and this is no coincidence. Central Coast wish they had it.

The Alliance of NSW Divisions is going to try to get some $$ from the Managed Health Networks proposals that DoHA announced late last year. The shape of that project is still being determined.

All the Divisions mentioned have websites with their addresses available from the NSW Alliance site, www.answd.com.au or ADGP site www.adgp.com.au.
