Hi
I dont know if they are any good but I chose a powerware the other day
1500VA as a temp measure till i save enough for an APC 1500VA. It
actually seems nice so far, runs the server long enough for
shutdown and
has software to initiate the soft landing, monitor the battery etc
(USB
not serial too).
Powerware are OK, only complaint is the sockets at the back are
looser than the average plug, something which is easily fixed with
gaffa tape. A middle ground between these cheapies and a real sine-
wave is Opti, you'll pay about 50% more and get proper piggy-back
sockets which don't fall out.
Serial is approx. 8 million times more reliable than USB and should
be preferred if you have a spare port, most come with both options now.
$299 at umart.
Cheaper from you-know-who but they don't tend towards affordable
postage.
Peter.
