I think this email is doing exactly what you accuse Ross of doing - its a
little hysterical don't you think? Why not stick to plain facts rather than
try ridicule - makes me think you are a little concerned even though I have
no idea how you or Argus are going.

Hi Ross,
I could hardly stop laughing when I read your posting. Boy, if you
ever do decide to stop doing the Argus thing, you'll be in huge demand by
the PR departments of the AWB and the Bush administration. Your ability to
turn bad news into good is just stunning!
Lets bypass the 'insatiable demand for Argus services' stuff (even
though its completely at odds with every report in the sector). Lets duck
the 'barbed insults to your hard-working competitors' who charge for their
services (as Government clearly, clearly wants us to do). Lets not dwell on
the fact that Argus has been (until recently when understandably they've
gotten cold feet) bankrolled by a large corporate that sits on your board.
We'll let go all the rest of the hype and schmooze and the 'Dorothy Dix'
question from Ollie but I have to ask.....
Why is it that all of the other parties in this space are now
working on interconnection and (sensibly) supporting the direction set out
by NEHTA and Argus is not? When Argus/Ross stould up at the recent HL7 web
services workshop and calmly announced he is not in favour of service
provider interconnection and instead wishes to lead off in his own direction
there was audible laughter.
For Ross to calmly state that "All these jurisdictions accept our
assurances that we will move to NeHTA compliance when that is fully
articulated, but in the meantime they need to get on with it using a
facility that is available and affordable"is side-splitting stuff.
NEHTA compliant approaches are there right now. The fact that
"ArgusConnect"doesn't want to/is unable to deliver them should be widely
understood. All the superb PR spin in the world wont save you from the
consequences of your wish to avert NEHTA led collaborative development of
standards and your quiet and lonely walk into the wilderness.
Can't wait for the next installment.

Health sector interest in Argus is growing more rapidly than ever
before
and there seems to be a market 'buz' that Argus is on the brink of
really taking off.
More and more Divisions, driven by requests from their GP members,
are
mounting initiatives to encourage their specialist colleagues to
join
them and get connected to send reports to GPs securely via Argus.
We now have deployment projects taking place in:
. Darwin and northern NT
. Townsville area Qld
. Toowoomba area Qld
. Coffs Harbour area NSW
. Nowra/Bowral/NSW South coast
. Canberra/Queenbeyan/Merimbula/Cooma
. Griffith NSW
. Brighton area of Melbourne
. Mornington Peninsular area Vic
. Bendigo/Castlemaine area
. Hobart Tas
. NE Adelaide area
Message-types currently being utilized in these settings are:
. Pathology reports to GPs
. Radiology reports to GPs
. Hospital discharge/birth/death notifications to GPs
. Emergency Dept encounter notes to GPs
. Notifications of infectious diseases to State Health
. Specialists reports to GPs
. Adverse drug reaction reports to TGA
. Care plans to care teams
. Allied Health provider reports to GPs
. Aged care institution encounter notes to GPs
Despite NeHTAs announcements about Web Services, Argus is still
being
implemented by 5 State/Territory Health Departments for various
applications and we are the messaging system of choice for 3 of the
current HealthConnect projects. All these jurisdictions accept our
assurances that we will move to NeHTA compliance when that is fully
articulated, but in the meantime they need to get on with it using a
facility that is available and affordable.
We now have 10 staff, and we are very proud of the fact that our
Help
Desk support guys continue to get flattering comments about their
skills, user-focus and helpfulness. We also now have 43 Certified
Argus
Installers around Australia; these being IT people in Divisions,
path
practices and external IT consultants who have gone through our CAI
training course and are now certified to have the skills to assist
if
that is needed.
Argus is starting to achieve that critical mass where the sector is
realizing that we are viable, have a robust and quality product and
are
succeeding. Above all, they are now hearing our message that
clinical
messaging is fundamental infrastructure for health; not a
profit-earning
opportunity for entrepreneurs.
We are happy with progress but are impatient to do a lot more.
