If you shred once the document has been scanned do you:

 

1.        Look in the patients record to ensure it is saved and able to be viewed; and.

2.       Ensure prior to destruction that you have a backup which is able to be verified as recoverable?

AMA is also seeking clarification as to how long hard copy patient records must be retained after being scanned into

a patient’s electronic record. Procedures for scanning and electronic storage of paper referrals or requests are also

addressed in the Electronic Transactions Act 1999. For further details visit 

 

I was under the impression that an electronic copy of a document was a legal document under the Electronic Transmissions Act
