Our main problem is with the hospital

improve but with very little success so far. The local hospital sends
us about the third or fourth carbon copy of hand-written notes which are
usually indecipherable and quite useless. Mention Argus to them and

Greg,
In NSW the state health department had 'electronic discharge summaries'
as policy form about 1997 until recently. Very few areas implemented
anything and the policy seems to have been dropped, with its 'Health
E-link' pilot initiatives, which was originally part of HealthConnect.
One of the hospitals in our area had what turned into a CERNA-generated
summary from its ED, but it was only going to be faxed out, and even
that got dropped. Some are getting them in envelopes, with the standard
chance the GP will never see it, or see it after it has any value.
One of the NSW divisions, Central Coast has a discahrge summary
transmission project occurring, in collaboration with CNS Health. The
AHS commitment has wained due to the 'AHS amalgamations', and could
cease to function quite easily.
I believe a big part of the problem is that hospitals still don't value
communication with GPs, hence the lack of will and allocation of resources.
