i used to love explaining to patients before the rebate was 100% that the government defined what they considered a service was worth, and then unilaterally declared a 15% discount for themselves on payment if we did the majority of the billing procedure for them... in those days it would have been sensible to issue an account for 100% of the fee to every patient and back it up with the information that it wasn't an ama conspiracy, but the actual government defined minimum price of the service


I think it's a great idea. I'll have a go if ever I return to general practice in Oz.

By then, working will simply be a matter of choice so the outcome for patients and what they want from a general practitioner will be the only issue, not whether I make an income or not.
