Imaging is rather problematic with newer versions of windows because of all
this DRM crap preventing images running on changed hardware

It is also a problem with wiondows because it does not allow you a clean
separation of
- system
- system configuration
- application software
- system wide application configuration
- per user application configuration
- system data
- user data

In the Unix world, all of these are cleanly spearated, can be mounted on
spearate partitions, and can be backedup/restored without riskingto mess
anything up or to forget something. It is "mission impossible" in Windows -
hence your images become HUGE, because you cannot separate images between
invariants (installed system and application software) and variants (user
data, configuration files)

I doubt that anybody running a system with bloated newer Windows versions +
bloated office software + bloated MSSQL server + bloated application software
+ EHR data will ever be able to fit a compressed image onto a single DVD -
for most people once they start scanning a bit not even their database
backups will fit onto a single DVD any more

Personally, I don't need imaging any more either.
I know that the newest bootable Kubuntu or Kanotix or Mepis CD will get
virtually any hardware into a workable server within minutes. Then all I have
to do is pull s amll script from my web site and run it on that
new "server" - that script does things like "apt-get install
postgresql-server-8.1", automatically installing all the software I need from
the Internet that doesn't come by default with that distro - takes just a few
minuytes, and then the script just patches user and system configuration form
the last backup, and restores the last database backup either from a local
copy or via the net from an encrypted off site copy.

Possibly takles you longer just to key in all these stupid license keys when
you try such with any Windows version ...
