There are several things a GP wants for his incoming data. These are:-
1. Getting all the data in the one spot.
2. Minimising the size of the data files.
3. Having a simple and consistent format to easily display the data
*within* the EHR. (viz. You do not want to open external viewers.)
4. Searching the data easily.
For me simple formating aids comprehension. Tony Eviston dispenses even
with that so that he can display the data in his IIS web interface.
PDF might fit the bill but Adobe is making it increasingly "heavy". RTF
is traditional but not the future and so some flavour of SGML/XML/HTML
is what should be used. The reality for Australian GPs is that newer
versions of MS Word used by specialists will be in MS XML. If we can
easily translate that to ODF we will have solved the problem.
