Actually, David (and David), I agree with Michael and think the standard is much needed and appropriately comprehensive. As well as providing a standard for referrals, it would appear to set up possible standards for e-prescribing and for a basic EHR. The sample referral (Chapter 4.2) demonstrates a subset of the complete set tha includes most of the usual fields a developer would require for implementation. I'm unclear on the subject of disease and medication coding - the standard specifies data type 'Codeable Text', but the sample uses plain text. There is no field that I can see for indicating what classification system is being used. Perhaps someone else gets it.
