It's also optional to correlate ordered investigations with received
investigations, so much of the time, only the received investigations
get checked. This is a big flaw in medical applications, as this is
probably important enough not to make it optional, but part of the
daily emr duties .

Syan,

MD2 has the 'Files-Outstanding Requests' feature, which is designed to allow the practice to check if tests have been ordered and no result has come back electronically to match it. Stuff also needs to be deleted from her manually in some circumstances, when the result has been confirmed.

It doesn't inform the test provider, but it should assist the practice to identify where a result may have gone astray, or the patient hasn't attended for the test.

The other chestnut in this is the ageing, or recalcitrant GP in the practice who insists on ordering manually. In most cases this forces the practice to also receive the results on paper, as well as electronically.

The test providers don't love that so much anymore.
