maybe it has something to do with making a system that links data with a structure like snomed ; the corba lexicon query service is a good example of how hard it might be to implement. But if no one uses such a complex classification in their daily clinical activities and records, why use it in a broad sense ? Maybe what they want is to be able to classify the documents we get as specialist reports, like oncological classifications and diagnoses, and histology reports and classifications, so what they will need is a system that does OCR as well. In other words, they want some of the data we get from specialists that we don't understand , but we keep anyway in our filing cabinets. If it's not for that, it could be a case of over-engineering.
