Well, on the subject of multiple names for things by Eskimo's. Our local First Nations have multiple names for places.

I could live in:

Baptiste, Baptiste Smith, 33, 33 mile or Samahquam - and I would be living in the same place.

Also Douglas or Tipella.

And
Skatin, Skateen or Skookumchuk

All of those places are also referred to a 'down below'. (but I don't think, that means half way to 'down under' :-)

They are all along the Lake Road, also called the InShuck Road.

I'll ask someone about names for snow.

On a serious note - none of them have mains electricity (all generators) - despite electricity distribution lines running right across their traditional lands along the valley. And folks wonder why our First Nations get a bit bitter......

(and no phones of course - although recently have satellite internet which has revolutionised communications for them, and I get to use OSCAR over it, so now can access patient records back at our medical office when I go down there, a boon for efficiency and safety)

Regards all

Jel
