John Over the last 10 years I tried the personal approach. Asking specialists I use, to use electronic communications. I spoke to each one personally. 2 practices immediately said yes. The others took another year or so of asking. The rest - in the too hard basket.
We have sent letters (our division), published articles in our newsletters (a few specialsts phoned to get more informastion about electronic messaging after reading these articles, but then nothing further happened). In desperation we then decided to have this evening of talking . Some-one recommended we only use specialists that will comply with our wishes. I only use specialists I believe that are excellent. Unfortunately most of them won't use electronic messagng. I won't support an inferior specialist just because he / she uses electronic messaging. Years ago I even offered to send specialist free floppies to type my corespondence on it rather, than on paper. Nobody took up the offer. Think of leadership more akin to Napoleon, Caesar, Horatio Nelson. Hold a "Launch" with bugle fanfare and professional presentation of the benefits of implementing secure communication. Keep it simple - "it's here, it works, it's free", "come, see, conquer", "fill in this registration of interest sheet, and it will happen". Follow up with GP newsletter articles containing the same simple messages (using graphic images and text). Also include short articles with Argus tips, eg: a) add to the bottom of your letter template that you now use Argus, see http://www.argusconnect.com.au b) in your (EHR) addressbook, put an asterisk* after the name of Argus users, so that you immediately know who is an argus user when you write/address your letters. It can be done.
