Well, I have installed it and it can contact my database server (running on 
Linux) right out of the box, as well as the file server (SAMBA, Linux).

It never occurred to me that anybody would want to access it the other way 
round - if I have to use a MS product for whatever reason, I try my very best 
to hide it from the network for obvious reasons. 

Thus I was quite relieved noticing that the default out-of-the-box 
installation did not allow this virtual Windows session to be seen from 
within my intranet, but that might just be a property of the firewall 
settings on the machine running the virtual sessions anyway.

I am afraid I can't help you there; you might have to read the virtualbox 
documentation
