HI Tony Ross (ARGUS) forgot to mention he or Argus was or is testing electronic scripts in the NT endorsed by new laws or regulations.
Signature requirements Federal legislation- The Federal government specifically legislated for electronic signatures when introducing Ä NEW TAX System or GST, payg and payw in 1998-9. Electronic referrals via Argus and the several dozen other software solutions occur every day. I doubt the Medicare office would reject a claim from a specialist for a faxed or encrypted referrals. Do you know of anyone who has had this occur? Have a look at http://www.agimo.gov.au/ It is prescriptions which are not yet up to date. Medicare or MR Abbott have been very slow of the mark allowing electronic scripts given it is 7 years now since the law was effected covering PKI. We are still waiting for permission to use a computer like a computer and avoid the pitfalls and costs of that little green slip we print for prescriptions today. Think for a second about the Medicare smart card and or the (stupid) efpos Medicare process. Both do or will use the patients electronic signature or efpos password to digataly sign the information which Medicare accepts. Can you imagine how silly they would look if they refused your electronic signature which can be validated adn can be verified back to your medical records?
