With my uk hat on, id suggest its also important to factor in IBM's ability to ship people in as well. I know last year there was an IBM GPFS event on the Monday at SC as I spoke there, I'm assuming the GPFS UG will really be an extended version of that, and there were quite a a lot in the audience for that.
I know I made some really good contacts with both users and IBM at the event (and I encourage people to speak as its a great way of meeting people!). As for me, I would prefer to have this first SC'15 US UG meeting on the Friday, Nov 20th, starting at roughly 1PM (after lunch) and maybe have it go for 6 hours. Or if we still want/need a full day, then start it at 9AM on Friday. I encourage others to provide their feedback as quickly as possible so that appropriate hotels and other travel arrangements can be made. The conference hotels are all but booked already!
