In my experience, the answer to this one is "maybe."  Thunderbird is
generally pretty good about recognizing when updates of plugins are
available, or when a plugin doesn't work with that particular
Thunderbird it will disable it and offer to check for updates, etc.: but
it would be a little foolish to rely on that.  It's not infallible.

GPGTools' release schedule doesn't work very well with Enigmail's.  We
make a few releases a year, usually bug fixes: GPGTools seems to be
updated less frequently.  From our perspective it would be nice if y'all
could put up a new GPGTools build when Enigmail updates.  However, we
understand that might not be possible, and we're definitely not trying
to dictate your release cycle.
