I have some feeds where they produce a lot of episodes but where I'm only
interested in a small number of them. Right clicking on each of them would be a
lot of manual work and a bit annoying.

Yup, annoying.

I would prefer something like this, but it doesn't need to be a global
preference. Just add a small checkbox "Mark unselected episodes as
downloaded/deleted" at the bottom of the dialog. It's off by default at first
run of gPodder, but it should then remember my last decision.
Btw, you are talking about markin them as "downloaded". When I'm sure that I
never want to download these unselected episodes again, shouldn't they be
rather marked as "deleted"?
