I don't think that "messy" file names are a problem: just look at most
podcasts, don't they have "xyz-20090127.mp3"?  The problem is with them not
being unique, and I'm voting for a 100% working solution for all cases, instead
of maintaining some "quirks mode", which would require more code to write and
maintain, more time to work (check the file name, add a random suffix, repeat).
 And all this without a particular goal, because very few people subscribe to
podcasts to look at file names.

To sum it up: cool, but useless and counter-productive.
