Thanks for your input, Helmut. The election wiki is not very clear about
this, it only states that "current PSC members will be asked if they
wish to stand as a candidate for the upcoming election" without any
further clarification. This is definitely a grey area worth developing.
I agree your proposal is a good idea, but it is possibly not my role to
decide on this. Also it is possibly late as we we have already launched
the nominations.
I believe this is something the PSC can decide:
1. should current PSC members have the right to stand up for reelection
without explicit nomination? (current line of action)
or
2. should current PSC members have to be nominated in the same way as
any other member of the community? (we could start right now as no PSC
members have yet stand up)
I agree with Helmut and would plead for 2).
Thanks for this, Moritz. I believe we may still change things and adhere
to proposal 2) because no PSC member has yet announced her/his intention
to stand up for reelection. But then I am not sure what would be
required for that. A PSC motion? Too late for that may be. A broad
agreement here on the PSC list? Perhaps. On the other hand, if a
current member wants to stand up for reelection she/he still has to
explicitly announce it. It is not that a PSC member automatically goes
on as candidate.
But now, a whole day has passed and I only got one nomination. I am
starting to consider the worrying scenario that we may not have enough
nominations. Perhaps I will have to run a more aggressive campaign of
announcements in a few days.
