I tried the same thing on spearfish....works fine!
I attached the crash report from today - I tried the same command
twice, so there are two reports a mere minutes apart.
This is the exact command I attempted:
v.buffer [EMAIL PROTECTED] output=buffer
type=point,line,area layer=1 buffer=2000 scale=1.0 tolerance=0.01
I just attempted it again, and it did NOT crash...
Seriously, I tried it twice earlier, crashed both times.
Thanks for the suggestion....I need to remember to refer to spearfish
for quality control.

details? can you reproduce the problem on the spearfish data?
What is the exact command you used?
There may be a crash report - check Console.app. Dig into your
home/library/logs/crashreporter and see if there is something there
for v.buffer.
