I would like to clarify certain things. There are a large number Marwari families in cochin and calicut. In Trichur, there are some punjabi families. All of them Hindus. But I do not think the police in uniform knock on the doors of any of them. Moreover, my friend is quite an ordinary looking person, who could easily merge with the Kerala population, and he moved into a small house in a small village after going through all the legal processes of buying a house. The land documents contain all his whereabounts, and I presume the police could verfiy these things if they wish--without actually walking into a house and making the inhabitants feel under obligation to explain their existence. As for the foreigners, many families in Trichur have visiting whites. I myself have many white friends, and some of them visit my house when they come to India. I really wonder why and how the visit of two white men to my friend's house became such a noticeable event!
By the way, the three police visits have created such a distaste in my friend that he is now considerng moving back to Bhopal or Hyderabad.
