dileep, i would assume that the poorer sections would be more prone to
torture without an effective criminal(and hence, crime)-handling system..
for instance, in the absence of crime control (which would be the end result
if we dont have jails and punishments), i would guess that the women of the
poor would be the first targets of the anti-social elements.. i dont see any
reason as to why the middle class is more benefited by crime-control as
compared to the other classes.. i was of the thought that an effective
crime-stopper/control mechanism is indicative of a progressive society..
else, we would all move to the "kayyookkullavan kaaryakkaaran" kinda
scenario..

and regarding whether release of prisoners from jail is to be considered as
a scorecard for the government,.. i would assume not.. for instance, if the
process works by means of a board which announces the to-be-released
prisoners, the political prisoners would be the obvious beneficiaries.. that
would lead to a scenario where the government, and not the court would have
more control over the system.. except for "nallanadappu" (if there is a
scientific method of assessing nallanadappu), any other kind of release
would be harmful to the existing law and order system is what i believe..

am sure that you have very different views on the same.. would love to hear
them.. and esp, as to why the middle class is more benefited by the
crime-handling mechanism than any other..
