While it may not look sensible to essentialise language, we can easily look at some of the reasons that paved way for the *new lipi* - which appear to be a prime motivator behind this debate. One major reason, that I think is the arrival of typewriter/typesetting machines that has forced the entry of a new style of representation. That should be attributed more to the limitation of machine interface, rather than treat it as part of normal *evolution*. The presence of digital encoding alongwith digital instruments and a plethora of interfaces that we enjoy today, should help us refrain from sticking with this departure from traditional *evolution* of language and continue with where the presentation of language was left behind. Is it that difficult to convince ? Aliter, can we have start thinking of having a separate code base for a malabar-malayalam ? Just to provoke further...
