Perhaps nowhere in the world we find the kind of travesty of justice and blatant abuse of the legal system, as seen in the LDF Govt's reportedly unqualified and preferential sanction uniquely given to a private institution for carrying out post mortems ; if the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences' Forensic Dept is delegated with the authority of carrying out post mortems, it must be a test case, and at the same time,it must be also an open challenge to the people and the law of the land. The Cheranellur initiative would definitely throw open larger questions as to the widening gap between the rights of citizens guarunteed by the Constitution on the one hand, and those actually acknowledged by the State as existing and worth being guarded by it, on the other. Various illegal activities of many demi godly institutions are often taken for granted, both by the State and the civil society, and they not only escape the social audit , but also institutionalize arbitrariness , lawlessness, and even the selective entitlement for impunity. For example, one might wish to ask what happened to the case of mysterious firing and murder of four youths (one of them from Kannur,Kerala)inside Puttaparthi, the abode of the demi god Sai Baba, which occurred a few years back. Despite the headlines this incident had struck, we are kept in total dark as to who is behind these murders that happened well inside the "Prasanthi Nilayam".Despite publishing of several special suppliments of bhagavan's birthdays since then, these mainstream news papers would never follow up the story of this particular crime or its investigation. No wonder that in murder cases, India is on the top of the world(see the recent report published by the National Bureau of Crimes Statistics) Kerala has been the model and poineer in many things; Does the sanction to private post mortem serve a new feather in this cap?
