In what sense are the packages "mandatory"? The "build-essential" package is not automatically installed with Debian or Ubuntu; users who want to build packages need to add it. http://packages.debian.org/stable/devel/build-essential > > for the error in the font, I didn't realize I had a too recent fontforge > when I edited the font the last time... and the stupid developer changed > the sfd format one more time, sadly it's impossible to convert it in a > more ancient sfd format, so you will have to upgrade to a recent > fontforge to compile the last greciliae font... Since ubuntu has not released a package for the new fontforge, I'll stay with the old font for now. I've built an ubuntu system under vmware just for gregorio, and I'd like to keep it simple. > > DVI is a *totally dumb* format (try to see how it's done, it's almost > ridiculous), no one should use it to view or (worse) exchange things, it > is only a temporary format... So it's more wise to use pdf or ps... Perhaps it would be useful to add a shell script to the gregorio package to automate the steps lamed-odvips-ps2pdf, to make it clear that the dvi output should not be considered as a usable product. > Thank you for your feedback, if you have more questions, don't hesitate > to ask them !
