I haven't forgotten that thread. Indeed, I'll focus the discussion of
MiKTeX fixes over there when I get the chance to work on them. However,
that process could take a while (especially as I don't have time to work
on it until Wednesday, at the earliest) and I don't think it should hold
up the release. We've got a TeXLive compatible release on Windows, Mac,
and Linux, which I think is good enough for now.
