As a long time Mac user and developer, I am not quite sure what you mean by
"that the others can be installed by xcode". Xcode is a front end for Apple
device development. It does not install anything itself. One typically installs
Apple's Developer tools in order to get the gcc compilers and other such
goodies, including Xcode. However, one cannot simply open up Xcode and say
Install gettext. For that one needs to use fink, MacPorts, or download the
latest gettext from sourceforge and so the usual config/make/etc. Xcode, the
application, is not involved in any of that.
Am I missing something here?
And yes, complete instructions for installation of dependancies that are
missing from out of the box OSX's is useful.
