My contribution, for what it's worth, to translation columns:
In the past I have used the packages pdfcolparcolumns and multicol in LaTeX to
achieve what I wanted with translations. I'm afraid I cannot now remember how I
used them to that effect...

This cannot be done in the gabc. That only supports a single line of text.

To arrange the text as in that litany you'll probably want to use a table which
is stretched to fill the text width. Look for the tabularx package.

A problem with the tabularx environment of LaTeX is that it doesn't admit page
breaks inside of the table: your whole table must be on the same page. So you
have to compute how many lines will fit on your pages, and split your table
manually. This is annoying because when you change the layout of your output,
you will have to check that the page breaks are still on the right place.

If you know a good solution for multi column output in LaTeX across several
pages, please let me know.

Yours in Christ.
