Dear Br. Samuel, I've read the description that you directed me to and understand that there has been spacing algorithm change. It might be the reason why the test.pdf produced from the current version looks so different than the model.pdf from an early version.
However, after adding the command \gresetbarspacing{old} to revert to the old
behavior, I see another issue that the asterisk is consistently misaligned to
the divisio with a small drift to right. Please see it in the attached
test1.pdf. Is there something wrong?

You are seeing the new bar spacing algorithm in action (it was added in
4.1.0). See UPGRADE.md (the "Spacing around bars" section) for a basic
description of the new behavior, how to tweak it to your liking, and how
to revert to the old behavior (if that is what you prefer).
