OK, I found the offending file. It was: DexrexExtensions.growlTicket
in the /$home/Library/Growl/Tickets folder.  I could upload it to the
Files directory here if anyone's interested.
Beyond that, I seem to have fixed my main problems, but I think some
of the documentation concerning the use of Growl in Carbon based apps
may be wrong, or at least unclear.  In particular, the existence of
“Growl Registration Ticket.growlRegDict” in my application bundle's
Resources folder seems to have no effect on registering my program
with Growl.  I had to do everything with Growl_SetDelegate.  There
also may be a problem with the build I got from the website, nothing
really worked right until I linked to the development version of Growl-
WithInstaller.framework.
