Hi Rick,

Sorry about the trouble. Some applications ship Growl inside them, but  
all should prompt you to install Growl. At some point that must have  
happened.

If you like you can check Growl out to see if you'd like to keep it. 
http://growl.info 
  has some information on it, and we can answer any questions.

If you'd like to remove Growl, go ahead and download Growl 1.2. Inside  
that disk image is an uninstaller that works pretty well. If the  
uninstaller doesn't work there are manual steps on our website that we  
can link you to as well.
